|This company extorts money from widows and orphans when they are not even legally obligated to pay the debt. I received a call SEVEN YEARS after a relative passed away and they were relentless in trying to collect even though there was no money or estate. Let grieving families grieve and let the dead rest in peace.|
|I received a letter from this company claiming a credit card debt for a relative who died a year ago. However, the letter did not provide the credit card number for the alleged account. The alleged account type is "CITI AT&T UNIVERSAL MASTERCARD" -- three names likely to be on a credit card -- but the deceased did not have AT&T service and no records of such a credit card were in the deceased's financial records.|
The deceased received no bills from "CITI AT&T UNIVERSAL MASTERCARD" -- which would normally occur before a delinquent account is turned over to a collection agency.
The letter requests that estate information be provided so that "an estate claim" can be filed. To prevent that they request that the full amount of the debt, allegedly between $500 and $600, be mailed to a PO Box.
If they receive a written dispute of the amount within 30 days of my receipt of the notice, they "will obtain verification of the debt"! However, before verifying the debt they ask for either payment of the claimed amount or threaten to encumber the estate.
If this were not a scam, I would expect that the collection agency would provide (1) the account number of the alleged credit card account, (2) details of the debt (the dates, amounts, creditors, and locations of each charge), and (3) a way of contacting the credit card company about the debt.
